We live in a world full of pretentious people. They are pompous and arrogant and thrive by throwing their credentials around and advising everyone of how magnificent they are! They believe that advising the world of how grand they are will lead to increased opportunities and acclamation. We have all seen the self-made escalation and the humiliating fall of those who tried to make themselves and it doesn’t end well.
The word of God advises us that the direct route to “the top”, the place of adoration, acclaim and applause is through humbleness. It seems uncanny that being humble is the course because it is contradictory to the way of the world. We can find ourselves asking the question, “How can modesty and meekness, be the way to approval?”
Isaiah 55:8-9 King James Version (KJV) 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
The human mind cannot comprehend the ways of God. When we learn His word and His character we begin to understand how we works and moves in the lives of His people.
When we try to do it on our own we are advised that we will find ourselves demeaned, degraded and denigrated. Matthew 23:12 “And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”
Many of us know the definition of grace as unmerited favor. We did absolute nothing to warrant it, it wasn’t earned and is clearly unjustified, but that’s what makes it so extremely Amazing!
Who doesn’t want more grace in their life? The book of James gives us the key to open our lives to it. We unlock increased, unjustified favor through humbleness. James 4:6 “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”
God requires us to walk humbly. Why? Because it is His desire that we live a fantastic life of promotion, advancement and upgrades. Yes, God can and wants to upgrade us, but we must meet the requirements. In the world of technology be it a smart phone, laptop, or tablet, a set of requirements are provided that must be met in order to get the next upgrade. If you want to move upward and onward in God the first step is to be humble. Micah 6:8 “He hath shewed thee, O man, what [is] good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
According to Proverbs 11: 2 Wisdom attaches itself to the humble. If you need wisdom as your companion (and I know you do) I implore you to live your life in meekness.
My sister please know that if you will walk humbly there is a due season coming in your life! Just as an expecting mother anticipates the birthing of the seed growing in her by the due date given in conjunction with the time of reproduction you must also be assured that there is a due date that’s coming for your exaltation. God has a specific time determined for your escalation. Don’t get weary, get ready! Serve the Lord in the position of humility and He will relocate you. 1 Peter 5:6 “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time”
