Every April I am awed at the beauty of the landscape as the earth makes its announcement of spring. I love the purple flowers of the locust tree. I anticipate their arrival as they confirm to me that spring is in full swing.
The blossoming of the trees gives us hope that warm weather is on the way. Which means we can plan barbeques, host lawn parties, and swim in the pool or the many lakes and rivers! Just a few buds and blossoms provide confidence that makes us put our coats in the closet and switch out our sweaters for short sleeves and our boots for sandals.
Hope is defined as a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. We often speak of faith, but hope is really “a big deal” because faith is the substance of things hoped for! If you have lost hope you will not use faith!
Psalm 42:5 reads “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hopethou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.”
Yesterday as I was commuting in to work I observed something that appeared to be so odd and out of place to me, snow! Now living in the hills of West Virginia I am no stranger to snow, but just last Saturday I had on flip flops! My windows were open the night before with a warm breeze blowing in the room as I slept; so, why are white, wet particles falling from the sky! I thought that season was over!
How many times has this happened in your life? When you thought a season was over and saw the signs of something new and allowed hope to spring forth in your life only to be disheartened by the display of the past.
I am here to encourage you to remain in hope! Although I saw snow yesterday, today the weather is sunny again and the temperature is 25 degrees higher than it reached yesterday. The forecast for tomorrow is another 10 degrees higher than today. Sometimes when you are moving into the new thing the past tries to rear its ugly head one last time! Don’t be fooled! You saw the purple flowers you know Spring is here!
Keep moving ahead with your plans, do your spring cleaning, prepare for nights out on the patio smelling the new blooms of flowers. The God’s faithfulness allows us to continue in hope! Knowing that he has set the times and seasons gives us full assurance that we will always have something to look forward to!
