There are some things that are nice to have and other things that are desirous. There are other things that make us feel better and make us happy. Unquestionably we need food and water to sustain natural life, but there are other things that are also essential.
Giving is essential. It is crucial and should be executed and experienced by all. Giving should be a primary deed that is implemented in our life practices daily.
It is the genesis of natural life. A sperm must be given and then connect to an egg where fertilization takes place in order to produce another person. Humanity will cease if giving of a sperm cell discontinues.
It is the premise of salvation. The bible informs us that God gave in order for us to live and not die. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” [John 3:16 King James Version]. God’s gift of his ONLY redeemed us back to Him and provided access to never ending life. We are his creation and should follow his example.
The gift of His only son speaks to another level of giving. He did not give out of an abundant supply. He gave ALL. God’s kind of giving is a display of generosity. Generosity is showing a readiness to give more of something, as money or time, than is strictly necessary or expected. It is giving liberally with an open hand.
Unfortunately generosity is not on the list of things that are trending! We will see it rise for a short time as it tends to come out of the darkness for about a month each December, but we should not allow it to go back into hiding.
The best part of giving is that it comes with a promise. According to Luke 6:38 King James Version (KJV) if you give “it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” This means that giving leads to getting. Giving comes with an assurance that you will not lose; but rather gain. Giving guarantees you will reap which replenishes what you let go of and provides surplus enough to give again!
Do not lose sight of what is essential as we move forward into the season of celebration of the ultimate gift. Choose to follow the path of generosity. You won’t regret it!
