My Favorite Christmas Songs

I am not sure if one can have three things and call them a favorite so I will note that I have three Christmas songs that I enjoy equally. The first is “O Holy Night” composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847. It is traditional yet moving and powerful each time I hear it. Another song that I love is entitled “Give Love on Christmas Day”. It was written by Freddie Perren / Alphonso Mizell / Deke Richards / Berry Gordy / Jr. / Christine Perren in the 1970s but the words and message still ring true and are the sentiments of my heart this holiday season as there is no better gift to give than love. Therefore, since the lyrics were so beautifully written I will leave you with a few stanzas of the words of this song.

“People making lists, buying special gifts, Taking time to be kind to one and all

It’s that time of year when good friends are near, And you wish you could give more than just presents from a store

Why don’t you give love on Christmas Day, Oh even the man who has everything,

Would be so happy if you would bring Him love on Christmas Day

No greater gift is there than love

People you don’t know smile and nod hello, everywhere there’s an air of Christmas joy

It’s that once of year when the world’s sincere And you’d like to find a way to show the things that words can’t say

Why don’t you give love on Christmas Day?

Oh the man on the street and the couple upstairs All need to know there’s someone who cares

Give love on Christmas Day, No greater gift is there than love

What the world needs is love Yes, the world needs your love

Why don’t you give love on Christmas Day”

Lastly, as we know the world is in a constant state of increasing chaos we must not give up hope; rather remain diligent in our belief that a change is coming.  So, I’ll leave you with these poignant and thought provoking lyrics written by Bryan Wells / Ronald Miller that speak of hope of a better future and wish you a joyous and merry Christmas!

Someday at Christmas men won’t be boys, Playing with bombs like kids play with toys

One warm December our hearts will see A world where men are free

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no wars When we have learned what Christmas is for

When we have found what life’s really worth, There’ll be peace on earth

Someday all our dreams will come to be, Someday in a world where men are free

Maybe not in time for you and me, But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas we’ll see a Man No hungry children, no empty hand

One happy morning people will share Our world where people care

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no tears All men are equal and no men have fears

One shinning moment one care away From our world today

Someday all our dreams will come to be Someday in a world where men are free

Maybe not in time for you and me, But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas man will not fail, Hate will be gone love will prevail

Someday a new world that we can start With hope in every heart

Maybe not in time for you and me But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmastime”
