Luke 1:13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
Zachariah had been called to priestly duty and was busy in the work of it when the Messenger showed up with a word that changed everything in his life. It was not by coincidence that Zachariah was chosen by lot to serve at this time and space. In fact, some have said there were twenty thousand priests in Christ’s time. This means that no priest would ever offer incense more than once. This was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for him, and he did not take it lightly.
God is strategic as He knows the end from the beginning. Proverbs 19: 21 tells us “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” Therefore, we must trust His timing because it is perfect and will triumph over our plans.
Zachariah was performing the tradition of tending the Altar of Incense inside the Temple. The priests instilled that the smoke from the altar made the prayers of the people ascend to God. All while he is assisting to get other’s prayers to God the angel appears and advises that his prayer is heard.
The Greek verb translated allows for a possible translation of the “prayer you don’t even pray anymore.”
How many times have you stopped praying about something that you desire? Have you concluded that it was “just not the will of God” for your life to get the job, be married, or like Zachariah and Elizabeth have a child? Does it seem that too much time has passed? Does it appear to be physically impossible? If the answer is yes, to any of these questions then remember Zechariah.
Zechariah means “God remembers”. His name alone was a testimony that God would never forget about him. But just like you, he had pushed aside his will, thoughts, and desires because he believed it was too late for him. He assumed that God did not have this planned for his life although he so desperately wanted it.
People of God have pressed you into believing that if it does not happen in our timing or natural timing that you have prayed amiss; but perhaps it was just not the appointed time.
The message from the Angel Gabriel was that God heard his prayer and the message is true even today. God has heard your prayer. He will answer in accordance with His plan that is bigger than you getting what you want when you want. It is about His will coming alive in the earth.
Hold on, keep believing, and fortify your faith! God has heard you. Do your part and watch for the manifestation of what you asked for.
